Apple has released the third version of its beta iPhone SDK (build 9M2158a, beta 3), which fixes bugs from previous versions and adds support for the latest iPhone operating system.

Nothing more exciting than that, except it’s another fairly hefty download for anyone keeping up-to-date with the latest software — 1.37GB in fact.

3G iPhone for May?

According to a recent report the highly anticipated iPhone with 3G technology will be hitting the US market in May. The news comes in a report from the Bank of America. Apple and AT&T have both collaborated that a high-speed version of the highly popular iPhone is definitely coming. They have, however not yet set a definite date for the product’s release. Scott Craig, who authored the Bank of America’s report, has stated that there will be a small beginning to the release come May and in June we will begin to see a more significant distribution. Despite his report however, both Apple and AT&T who is the exclusive carrier for the iPhone in the United States, have declined to comment on the release either way. Since there is an iPhone developer’s conference in June it simply makes sense to release this new version during that month.

So you’ve developed an app for the iPhone using their shiny new SDK - how do you get it to the thousands of handsets they’ve sold? Steve Jobs took to the stage at the Roadmap event today to announce the new Apple Store, which will appear on iPhones after the next firmware update. Featuring wireless downloads, software will be installed directly to the handset; programs will also be available via iTunes. Developers distributing paid-for software will be able to set their own prices, with Apple taking revenue with a 70/30 split and paying them monthly, that means you hand over £30 out of every £100. Thank you very much!!

Only problem (for those of us in the UK) is that the iPhone Developer Program will initially be available to a limited number of developers in the U.S. and will expand to other countries in the coming months.
